Sales Reps and Publishers Take Note! Tome on the Range in Las Vegas, New Mexico is a secret that is too good to be kept. After 16 years and three different locations in Las Vegas, Nancy has created a perfect jewel of a bookstore on the main street of this small town, which is an easy one hour drive east from Santa Fe on I-25. Maintaining a world-class bookstore, with a children’s room that you never want to leave, in a town where the mean income is just $14,000 requires a sense of mission, dedication, stubbornness, smarts, and ingenuity and Nancy possesses all of these and then some. Networking and community activism are the name of the game here, and Nancy seems to be on virtually every council and committee in town. There are people in town who have told Nancy that they have considered moving but did not because of her store!
The biggest frustration for Nancy, her store Manager Michael Siewert and Events Coordinator Janet Chapman, is the difficulty of persuading publishers to send authors to their store, when it is an easy, logical stop along I-25. My biggest frustration was that I didn’t have several more hours to spend in Tome, as it is one of those wonderful stores where you walk in for the first time, look around, and sigh happily, knowing that you have found one of the good places. -ldk
